Exciting Updates in Business Central v25 for Australian Finance Users

Welcome to the latest update on Business Central! Microsoft has rolled out some fantastic new features in version 25, and we’re here to break down the highlights for you. Whether you’re a seasoned finance professional or just getting started, these updates are designed to make your work easier and more efficient.

  1. Enhanced Copilot Integration

Copilot, Microsoft’s AI assistant, has been further integrated into Business Central. This means you can now use natural language to find records and get guidance on tasks. For example, you can ask Copilot to show you the last invoice for a customer or ask for guidance on how to setup prepayments. This feature is only available in the US version but coming soon for Australian audiences, but promises to be a game-changer once fully available.

  1. New Power BI Reports

Business Central now includes a suite of Power BI reports out of the box. These reports cover finance, sales, and purchases, providing over 70 detailed insights. While you can’t modify them just yet, it’s a great time to explore and get familiar with these powerful tools.

  1. Modern Search Functionality

The new modern search option is faster and smarter. It focuses on key columns, making it easier to find what you’re looking for. For instance, if you type “London chair,” it will find any item with those words, even if they’re not in the exact order. This improvement will save you time and frustration when searching through large datasets.

  1. User Groups Transition

User groups are being phased out in favour of a more streamlined permission set system. If you’re currently using user groups, you’ll need to transition to the new system. This change will make managing user permissions simpler and more efficient. There’s also an option to link Business Central permissions with Microsoft Intra ID security groups, which can help streamline onboarding new users.

  1. Improved Document Attachments

Attaching documents in Business Central is now easier. You can upload multiple files at once and drag them into the new attachments section. This is a big improvement over the previous method, which required multiple clicks for each file.

  1. Excel and Analysis Reports

There are new Excel reporting options and analysis tools for fixed assets. These tools make it easier to generate detailed reports and perform ad-hoc analysis. The new Excel reports are designed for better analysis, moving away from traditional print-friendly formats.

  1. Job Queue Enhancements

Managing job queues has become more intuitive. You’ll receive notifications if a job queue fails, and you can set priorities for different jobs. This ensures that critical tasks are completed first, improving overall efficiency.

  1. Minor but Mighty Improvements
  • Column Resizing: You can now resize columns in any list, making it easier to view and manage data.
  • Voice Commands: Handy Tip to try using Windows Key+H to activate voice commands, allowing you to input data hands-free when using CoPilot.
  • Shortcut Keys: Press the Alt key to see shortcuts for quick navigation, saving you time on repetitive tasks.

These updates are designed to enhance your experience with Business Central, making it more user-friendly and efficient.
